Dear Parents,
This week our scholars engaged in an important and impactful discussion on red flags and healthy relationships, with a focus on teen domestic violence awareness. We explored how unhealthy behaviors; such as control, manipulation, lack of respect, and emotional harm can appear in relationships, and how to recognize warning signs early. We also emphasized the characteristics of healthy relationships, including communication, trust, boundaries, and mutual respect. This week’s dialogue was meaningful and, at times, emotional; but it created a safe space for honest conversation, learning, and growth.
To support this conversation, students viewed a short video that helped guide discussion and reflection. If you would like to review the video before talking with your your scholar, you can access it here:

COUNSELING/THERAPY REQUIREMENT:
As part of this month’s programming, each scholar will be asked to schedule one (1) 45-minute counseling/therapy session. This session will be:
- Provided at no cost
- Available virtually or in-person (in-person preferred)
If your scholar chooses a virtual session, we ask that parents/guardians respect their privacy by allowing them to meet with the therapist in a quiet, secluded space. Privacy is essential for the session to be effective and meaningful. If the therapist determines that the scholar is not comfortable speaking virtually, the session may be rescheduled for an in-person appointment to ensure its effectiveness.
We strongly encourage you to support your scholar in scheduling this session. The scheduling link will be released by week, but wanted to give parents a heads up so you can discuss with your scholar which type of session is perferred. Below are a few suggestions to help create a private environment.
- Use a room with the door closed and a TV or radio playing nearby to help mask sound.
- Allow the scholar to sit in a car or outside during the session.
- Run a short errand and allow the scholar to remain home to complete the session.
If your scholar finds the session beneficial, you are welcome to enroll them in our Pathways to Healing Counseling Center, which offers ongoing support. We accept most insurance plans, and Medicaid approval is currently pending.
DISMISSAL CONCERNS:
Lastly, due to increased attendance, we are asking all parents/guardians to complete the pickup section below to ensure that every scholar is safely accounted for at dismissal. Please be advised that I have both Middle & High School students. Please answer accordinly. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shantasha Love, Program Manager
